Factory Engine Ordering

Factory Engine OrderingWhat is the difference between New, Remanufactured and Overhauled engines from the factory? Are quotes free of charge? What do I get with my quote? What do you (APS) do as part of an Engine order? Why should I buy an engine through Aviation Power Supply?Where do you ship engines? When should I order my engine?Who do I talk to about an engine warranty?

Why should I buy a new, remanufactured or overhauled factory engines?

There are several factors at play here. New or remanufactured engines from the factory come with a better warranty and are certified at TSO=0 and some engines come with an extended TBO policy. With this in mind, it can be quite competitive from a cost perspective (depending on the exchange rate of the AUD or NZD) compared to a local engine overhaul. Factory engines may also be more available than local workshop capacity, depending on the demand for engine overhauls at the time. We recommend getting a quote from us and getting advice from your local engine shop who can guide you in the right direction.

  • Any Major modifications or model conversions in the field? (e.g. Conversion from IO-520 to TSIO-520)
  • Has the core been active (i.e. operated / maintained) in the last 12 months?
  • Is the core complete & in assembled condition?
  • Are you requesting a different engine model than your core? (e.g. upgrade from IO-360-E3D to IO-360-D3G)

We take a deposit, place an order on the factory directly and give you the expected delivery date. Once the engine is built, we ask for the remainder of the cost of the engine. At the same time we organise all the associated activities in order to get the engine to you.

Because we are experts at this, we handle all the hassles associated with getting the correct Lycoming/Continental Engine out of the USA. We ship to your door, which means you don’t have to worry about USA domestic transport, international freight, domestic freight, customs clearance charges, transit insurance or product insurance. We also handle any warranties you may have, and we help get your engine core back to the USA so you avoid the core charge from the manufacturer. A door to door service.

Anywhere in Australia and New Zealand. We can even ship to the Pacific Islands

At the moment (depending on your engine), factory lead times can be substantial. If you need an engine at any point in the next 12 months, we highly recommend you contact us and we can walk you through the current leads times and costs. We are happy to quote for planning purposes. We also have stock engine orders in place with the manufacturers, so it is worth enquiring whether you can get a better lead time through us.
